David Maddison, P.Eng. – President and CEO
David is President and CEO of Black Swan Energy, a junior oil and gas company focused on exploration in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Prior to starting Black Swan Energy, he spent 30 years with Talisman Energy, most recently as Senior VP, Technology and Business Development, with responsibility for entry into new shale plays in North America. His career has included management of business units up to 110,000 boepd, strategic planning and leadership of technical teams, including three years overseas in technical roles. David is a professional engineer, graduating from the University of British Columbia with a BASc in Chemical Engineering. He has served on numerous industry committees.
Marc Méreau, P.Eng. – COO
Marc is the Chief Operating Officer for Black Swan Energy. He has over 32 years of experience in the energy industry, both domestically and internationally. Prior to Black Swan, he held the position of Senior Vice President of Talisman Energy managing their Western North American business. Marc is a graduate of the University of Calgary having completed his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Michael Wilhelm, B.Comm., CGA – VP Finance & CFO
Mike is Vice President, Finance and CFO of Black Swan Energy. He has over 27 years financial experience in founding, funding and growing exploration and production companies, both private and public. Most recently and since 2006, he was Vice President, Finance and CFO of Peloton Exploration Corp; prior to that from 2003, Vice President, Finance and CFO of Espoir Exploration Corp. He was a founder of Equatorial Energy Inc. in 1996 where he held multiple roles of increasing responsibility culminating in appointment to Vice President, Finance and CFO in 2001.
Bruce Thornhill – VP Exploration
Bruce is Vice President, Exploration of Black Swan Energy. He has over 32 years of experience in the energy industry focused on conventional and resource play exploration and development throughout Western Canada, primarily in Deep Basin areas. He has held positions of increasing responsibility with Canadian-based junior, intermediate and major oil and gas companies. Since 2007, he was a key member of the management team at TAQA North, first as Vice President of Geosciences and most recently as Vice President of the North Asset. Bruce holds a B.Sc. in geology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.
Bryan Lang, B.Sc., P.Eng. – VP Operations
Bryan is Vice President, Operations of Black Swan Energy. He has 22 years of experience in the energy industry focussed on resource play development in Central Alberta and Deep Basin areas. Bryan spent the early part of his career at Chevron Canada Resources. He continued to develop his wellbore engineering, operations and optimization skills in a variety of oil and natural gas plays and was recently a key member of the management team at Peyto Exploration & Development Corp. Bryan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.
Leanne Juneau –
Leanne is VP Land of Black Swan Energy. She has 16 years of experience in negotiating exploration and acquisition land agreements in Western Canada. Most recently she was Land Manager at Redcliffe Exploration Inc. which sold to Paramount Resources Ltd. in June 2010. Prior thereto, she held positions with Talisman Energy Inc. and Northrock Resources Ltd. Leanne graduated from the University of Calgary, receiving a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Petroleum Land Management and is currently a member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen.
Diane Shirra – VP Business Development
Diane is Vice President, Business Development of Black Swan Energy. She has over 31 years of experience in the energy industry focused on exploitation and development of both conventional and resource plays throughout Western Canada. She has held positions of increasing responsibility with Canadian-based junior, intermediate and major oil and gas companies. Most recently she was a key member of the management team at Pengrowth Corporation as Vice President Reserves and Strategic Projects. She holds a B.Eng, Mechanical from McGill University in Montreal as well as a MBA from INSEAD, in Fontainebleau, France. Diane is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta.
